In 1981, the first cases of AIDS were identified. There are already estimated more than 30 million people who have been living with HIV and AIDS worldwide. And around 1.8 million people are estimated that died in 2010 alone. Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome or also known for short as AID. This is a medical condition. If the person’s immune system is too weak to fight off infections a person is diagnosed with AIDS. This is caused by HIV, a virus that attacks the immune system cells. As it damages the cells the body becomes susceptible to infections. A person said to have AIDS if his or her HIV infection is already very advanced. If not treated it might take at least ten years before the HIV damaged the immune system so that AIDS to develop. Until now there is still no cure for this, unfortunately many people think that there is already a cure that make them feel that it is safe. But the only way to be safe is to be aware on how this HIV transmitted and how to avoid or prevent HIV infection. With Antiretroviral treatment this can prolong the lives of those people with HIV. With modern combination therapy is very effective for someone with HIV who is having a treatment of this might live for the rest of his or her life without developing AIDS.
A person doesn’t actually get AIDS, you’ll be infected with HIV and then develop into AIDS. You can be infected by someone who is infected. There are people get the HIV virus by having sex to a person who is infected, sharing needle with someone who is infected and being born and the mother is infected and drinking the breast milk of an infected woman.
To promote the ongoing fight against AIDS pandemic by turning to red that marks World AIDS Day. Last December 1, more than 80 iconic landmarks across the 13 countries that joined this campaign. This campaign is to emphasize the goal of ending mother to child transmission of this HIV by 2015. The theme for this year’s is “Getting to Zero “ meaning zero HIV infections, AIDS related deaths and zero discrimination. The world AIDS day was marked by the whole world. There are activists that participated in the march of solidarity with people living with HIV walk past Manneken Pis dressed in costume with the shape of a condom on the World AIDS Day in Brussels, Belgium last December 1, 2011, to promote awareness of the ongoing fight against AIDS. There were red balloons that were released to the sky during the World AIDS day in San Paulo, Brazil. Residents participated at the march in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. In Buenos Aires, Argentina, there was a man who performs during the commemorating of the World AIDS day and a woman that draws a red ribbon to participate and show how they support the awareness of the ongoing fight against the AIDS epidemic on the World AIDS day. Not only them and their country but also were held across the globe.
